Q&A
Add plug-in RFID capabilities to Pocket PC applications
Both bar code labels and RFID tags are being used or deployed for many vertical applications, and both technologies will co-exist in the market for some time to come. Now add both bar code scanning and high frequency RFID read/write capabilities to your Pocket PC-based mobile data collection application with Socket’s CompactFlash RFID Reader-Scan Card. This unique dual-function product scans all common linear bar codes and reads and writes to all ISO 15693 and many proprietary 13.56Mhz RFID tags. This 6P model includes a powerful Class 2 laser for more demanding bar code scanning applications such as outdoors or longer distances.
Like all Socket’s data collection products, the CF RFID Reader-Scan Card is supported by SocketScan keyboard wedge software which sends the bar code data as well as the RFID tag ID and/or data from selected memory blocks to any Windows application as virtual keystrokes – No custom programming needed! A small RFID Demo application allows writing to the accessible tag memory blocks for demonstration purposes. The SocketScan SDK is available for developers who wish to embed control of the bar code scanning and RFID read/write functionality into their applications.
Mobility Friendly Means Low Power
As with all of our products, Socket designed the Mobility Friendly CF RFID Reader to use minimal power. Drawing only 11mA (36mW) in idle mode, the CF RFID Reader will operate for hours without having to recharge the batteries in your Pocket PC.
