"List price" is the suggested retail price provided to us by our vendors. We make no representation that a substantial number of these products have been sold or offered for sale at the list price. Actual retail prices in your area may be substantially different. Since we sell products on a national basis, it is not possible to know if our merchandise is sold at list price in any particular location or at any particular time. "You Save" reflects the difference between our price and the vendor provided list price shown on our sites. Since the list price may be different than the actual retail prices in your area, you may not actually realize a savings of this amount.

Manufacturers sometimes ask that retailers not display a price if it drops below a certain amount. The "Click here to see Lowest Price" message indicates that the price of the item is so low that the manufacturer requested that it not be advertised (that is, displayed). In a brick-and-mortar store, you would probably have to ask a salesperson what the price of the product is. At eCOST, by clicking on "Click here to see Lowest Price" you are essentially asking to see the price, at which point we show it to you.

Description of OmniDiagnostic and OmniReporting

1. Wipeclean Target (Master/No Master)

The wipeclean target function is specifically for erasing all existing data from a Target Drive. The user can control the functionality through the selection of the number of erase passes, and the data value used to fill the sectors. The default selection of the fill value is F6 Hex, which is the standard value used at the primary format level. The user can set any value from 0 – FF Hex. The selection of the number of passes will cause the software to perform a standard data wiping algorithm which can be set comply with government (DOD) standards. A setting of zero will result in one pass over the drive, filling the sectors with the selected data value. Any other setting will result in one pass with the fill data value set to zero, a second pass with the fill value set to FF Hex, and a third pass with the fill value set to the user&Mac185;s value. Therefore, a pass setting of 1 will result in three total passes. A setting of two will perform six total passes, and so on. A pass setting of three and the default value of F6 Hex will implement the DOD recommended standard.

The wipeclean target can run in either of two modes. It can run with a Master drive as the source of data for the wiping operation or it can run without one. Running with a Master drive will result in the highest operating speed and is recommended for any operation requiring more than one total pass.

2. Scan Target (Fast/Thorough)
The scan target operation performs a surface scan of the drive media using the drive controller to verify the media. This is done without transferring any data being transferred from the drive. This results in extremely fast operation at the maximum media speed of the drive. This is typically faster than the maximum sustained transfer speed of the drive. The media is scanned in blocks of 256 sectors. If a block fails to verify, it is retried once at the block level. If it fails again, each of the 256 sectors is scanned individually. Each sector is scanned up to ten times. If a sector fails immediately, it is classified as Bad. If the sector fails to verify after a good read any time up to the tenth read it is classified as Weak. If the sector is verified good for ten reads it is classified as good. If after the individual sectors are all scanned there are no bad sectors found the block is classified as a Weak Spot.

The Fast mode performs one pass of the drive and will report the results to the display and to the printer if desired. The Thorough mode will perform three passes and collect and sort the resulting error information. All results for the Scan operation are saved and available for a printer hardcopy whether the operation terminates normally, is aborted by the User, or terminates with an error. An error count of 200 will abort scanning as the drive is probably damaged beyond desirability.

3. Repair Target
The Repair Target operation runs directly on the Target drive without using a Master drive. The Scan Fast operation as described previously, is used to qualify the drive. Where the scan operation classifies a sector as either WEAK or BAD, the Repair Target operation will attempt to recover each sector. A wipe operation is performed by writing a value of zero, followed by a value of FF Hex, and finally a value of F6 Hex. The result is that either the sector information will be refreshed, or the sector may be reallocated by the controller, either of which results in a recovery. If this Refresh/Wipe operation fails the sector is classified as either WEAK or BAD as described previously. All results for the Repair operation are saved and available for a printer hardcopy whether the operation terminates normally, is aborted by the User, or terminates with an error. Again an error count of 200 will abort scanning as the drive is probably damaged beyond desirability.

4. Error Recovery for Cloning operations
The Error Recovery for Cloning feature is activated from the Set Menu choice &Mac179;On Error&Mac178;. The choices are Abort, Skip, Retry, and Recover. Abort will terminate any Cloning operation immediately upon detecting an error. Skip will not copy the offending sector but will proceed with the following sectors. Retry will attempt to automatically recover the sector with a good read. Recover will attempt to reconstruct the data sector automatically with a proprietary algorithm.

5. Drive Health Information
The Drive Health function will display information about the drive such as Average RPM, Seek Time, Read Latency, and a report of S.M.A.R.T. data if available.

6. Omni Reporting
The Omni Reporting feature adds a hardcopy printout of any session results for all Cloning and Diagnostic operations. The printout will occur immediately upon completion of any operation when enabled. Results may also be printed for any operation after completion from the Set Menu whether enabled or not.
