 Great upgrade for my mid-2009 13" Macbook Pro, 2013-03-12

Great value. Fairly simple install. Very fast. Just cloned my 160gb internal hard drive to the Samsung 840 500gb SSD using carbon copy cloner (free version). For the cloning process, the SSD was attached to the Macbook Pro using a sata-to-usb adapter previously purchased for other purposes. The cloning process took about 4-5 hours and went very well. Afterwards, the cloned SSD was tested by booting it via usb. When that proved successful, the internal hard drive was replaced by the SSD, It took about 15 mins and a couple of small screwdrivers to swap drives. One of the screwdrivers required is a Torx T6 which I did not have on hand and had to run out and purchase at Sears for less than $5. After the install, I discovered that a recommended firmware update was available. Initial queries led me to believe that the firmware could only be updated with a Windows utility. This was problematic since I already had the drive loaded with OS X, installed in my Macbook Pro and had no windows system readily available. Further research lead to a downloadable disk image from Samsung that used DOS to apply the firmware update for Macs. It was installed with no problems. In addition, the Trim Enabler app was installed and used to set the trim option on the SSD. OS X does not support setting trim for a third party SSD. The drive is lightning fast, lightweight, cool running and uses little energy. Very happy with it so far.
