  Drobo 5D Thunderbolt is Awesome,  2012-12-11

I already had older 4 bay Firewire 800 Drobo and a wide variety of external disks. This 5 bay unit offers so much more. Old unit was limited to 2TB disks -- not nearly enough. The new one now has a combination of 3TB, 2.5TB, 2TB and even an older 1.5TB disk. It works like a charm. It is about 15 times faster than the old unit! I assume as I can afford newer, larger, disks the speed will increase even more. Large enough to warehouse movie and audio files and fast enough to use as my /user/ disk. Reliability should be great but I will still being doing backups.
