I bought this drive to use with my MacBook Pro for a portable backup. I am taking a trip next week which will verify portability, which I don't expect to be an issue.

I spent extra to get a Thunderbolt drive, because I want speed. It is fast: my last backup averaged 399.74 MB/s. I have watched burst speeds of over 2 GB/s. I have a 6G OWC SSD in my Mac, so I would suppose that the HDD in the Buffalo is a bit of a bottleneck, but that is OK when I balance the cost to the performance. Burst speeds of up to 10 GB/s are capable on Thunderbolt.
